Meet Dr. Jessy

She believes a child’s early experiences at the dentist shape how they feel about healthcare for the rest of their lives. Her goal is simple: every child should leave the office smiling, feeling proud of themselves, and excited to return.

Around the clinic she is affectionately known by many families as the “Tooth Fairy” or the “Disney Princess dentist.” Kids love her energy, her patience, and the way she connects with them on their level, while parents deeply appreciate her skill, thoughtful approach, and the calm confidence she brings to their child’s care.

The goal is not just a comfortable visit—it’s creating an experience where children feel safe, confident, and genuinely excited to come back.

From Miami to Juneau

Jessy grew up in Miami, Florida, where she met her husband Rolando “Roly” Blanco in high school. In 2002 the two moved to Juneau while Roly was stationed here with the United States Coast Guard.

They quickly fell in love with Southeast Alaska and the incredible community that calls it home.
During that first chapter in Juneau, Jessy attended the University of Alaska Southeast while working as a dental assistant at Southeast Dental Group. It was there that she met mentors who introduced her to dentistry and helped spark the passion that would ultimately define her career.
Their daughter Sophia was born in Juneau in 2006 and later graduated from Juneau Douglas High School. After completing her professional training, Jessy and her family returned to Juneau in 2015 to build their life and practice here.

“We fell in love with Juneau—and knew this is where we wanted to build our life and serve families.”

A Philosophy Built Around Children

At Juneau Pediatric Dentistry, every detail of the visit is designed with children in mind.

“The goal is not just a comfortable visit—it’s an experience children actually look forward to.”

Jessy believes pediatric dentistry should feel completely different from an adult dental visit. Her entire team shares the philosophy that the child always comes first, which is why the practice motto is:

“Where little smiles are a big deal.”

Children are welcomed with a comfort menu that allows them to choose elements of their visit.

They can select what plays on the TV, choose special glasses, pick a plush companion, or enjoy cozy blankets, weighted blankets, fidget toys, and noise-canceling headphones.

These small choices help children feel comfortable and confident during their visit.
Many treatment rooms feature immersive murals inspired by beloved ocean and adventure stories, including themes reminiscent of Moana, Finding Nemo, Stitch, and a full “Under the Sea” experience inspired by The Little Mermaid. Each space is thoughtfully designed to feel engaging, comforting, and familiar, helping children feel at ease from the moment they sit in the chair.

These environments are more than just décor. They are part of a carefully designed experience that helps children relax, build confidence, and even enjoy their visit to the dentist.

Serving Children in Alaska and Beyond

Community service and advocacy have always been central to Jessy’s work.

Since opening her practice in 2015, she and Team Tooth Fairy have donated over $1 million in dental care to children and families facing difficult circumstances. Each year the practice strives to provide at least $100,000 in donated treatment to children who need care but cannot afford it.

In recognition of this work, Dr. Blanco and Team Tooth Fairy were honored by the Alaska Dental Society and the Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority for contributing hundreds of hours of care to patients with special healthcare needs.

From 2013 through 2023, Jessy also served as Alaska’s Public Policy Advocate for the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and regularly traveled to Washington, DC to meet with members of Congress and federal policymakers to advocate for legislation that improves access to dental care for children.

Through these efforts, she helped support policies that continue to protect and expand access to dental care for millions of children across the United States.
